100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Lip & Cheek Tint in Pink Grapefruit

I love tint products,be it lip tint, cheek tint, anything tinted products. Before making this conversion to clean and green beauty products,I have tried some liptints,so when I saw 100%pure had lip & cheek tint on their range,of course I deffy wanted to try.If you don't know what 100%pure brand is,or having a high curiousity about source of your make up colorants, read my prev.post here.If you're new and jump to this blog by accident,well..I know that some people are even just too lazy to click another link(I do it sometimes,hehehe...),so here I'll copy and paste from my previous post for you:
As you might know, when we buy colored cosmetic(lipstick, blush on,eyeshadow, even skincare),there're sources of cosmetic color that we buy. Now,what are sources of our cosmetic color?Generally it can be classified into these:
1.Plant
Leaves,Fruits,Root,Flower,basically from plant.

2.Animal
From insect, fish, snail, and anyother animal.Yes,animal.Royal purple color, once worn only by royalty as the name suggests, is obtained from the Murex snail. Sepia is obtained from cuttlefish, and Indian yellow is obtained from the urine of cows that have been force-fed mango leaves. The most famous animal that is made into color source of cosmetic will be cochineal.Cochineal is an insect that is used to make carmine color in food and cosmetic industry.Carmine color is extracted from the insect's body and eggs and mixed with aluminum or calcium salts to make carmine dye .The insects are killed by immersion in hot water (after which they are dried) or by exposure to sunlight, steam, or the heat of an oven. Each method produces a different colour that results in the varied appearance of commercial cochineal. The insects must be dried to about 30 percent of their original body weight before they can be stored without decaying. It takes about 70,000 insects to make one pound of cochineal dye.Okay, that torturing animal activity is enough to ban it from my cosmetic purchase. Also,I certainly don't want to see insect on my cosmetic product.More,if you're a moslem like me,carmine is haram according to some islamic religious council.Just google it for sure!;)Carmine is labelled as CI 75470,or E120.Carmine is also called Crimson Lake, Cochineal, Natural Red #4.And,carmine is widely used in food industry as well.Just check your candy or yoghurt.Basically, carmine is used to make red color in both food and cosmetic industry. Also,as a food dye it has been known to cause severe allergic reactions and anaphylactic shock in some people.

3.Mineral
The minerals are pulverized and mixed with a dispersing or spreading agent. Sometimes heating the minerals produces different hues. This mineral origins(elements, oxides, gemstones, salts, and complex salts)are insoluble,so can be defined as pigments.

4.Synthetic Color
Synthetic colorants are copies of vegetable, animal, and mineral-based colorants, and are made in a laboratory. Until the nineteenth century, all colorants were of natural origin. The first synthetically made commercial colorant, mauve, was developed from aniline, a coal tar derivative, by William Henry Perkins in 1856. Today, chemists arrange and manipulate complex organic compounds to make dyes of all colors. Synthetic dyes, made in a controlled atmosphere, are without impurities and the colors are more consistent from batch to batch. The most common synthetic colors used in cosmetics and hair dyes are called FD&C colors or D&C colors.FD&C colors means the colors has been certified by USFDA to be used in Food,Drugs,& Cosmetics. D&C colors means the color can be used in Drugs & Cosmetics only, and not in Food. FD&C and D&C colors are derived from coal tar, which in turn is a by-product of petroleum. Because some coal tar dyes have been known to cause cancer, they are are regulated by the USFDA as to the amount of lead or arsenic they contain, limiting these elements to 10 parts per million.Lake colors can also be derived from coal tar.Lakes are produced from the FD&C Dyes and are oil dispersible (but generally not oil soluble) and thus can be mixed with oils and fats. They can also be dispersed in other carriers such as propylene glycol, glycerin and sucrose (water and sugar). That's why it's often used in cosmetic industry since generally cosmetics are made of oil. So,if in our cosmetic there're either:"FD&C color,or D&C color,or Lake color"on ingredients list,it means the cosmetic uses synthetic color as the colorants.

Yeah, those are some of what I've posted before. For detil info, you can click whole of my prev.post about it here. So,basically 100%pure source their products colorants from fruits & vegetable as their pigments.By far, their lips products are my fave since I love to see plants as my cosmetic pigments. What I'm avoiding the most is animal colorants which is unfortunately, widely available.Even on some natural and green companies products. What i'm talking about here is carmine.Carmine is no.1 fave source colorants since it can produce various beautiful red hues.I deffy say no to insect on my cosmetic products(and ingesting insect is a yuck idea for me -__-..). Also, recently I found on the market that now producers tend to write the CI number instead of the common name for the color(for exp: FD&C Blue no.1,D&C Yellow no.10,etc)which is absolutely a big loss for consumers since they won't be able to differ whether their make up source of colorants are either from synthetic or mineral,or what???? There're thousands of colors on CI list, unless you're a pro in color industry,so it's impossible to detect which one is synthetic and which one is mineral/animal source of colorants just by reading the CI number on ingredients list. As a consumer,I have the right for such info before making a buying decision of a product. And now they just don't give it....Haha..well,they can still continue doing such things forever, personally I'll deffy leave those kind of producers :).

Now,how about this product?Well, the packaging is simple but cute imo.It came with a plastic seal wrapped arround it.

They have 6 shades,see below:

swatch:

I was confused about what color to pick honestly.I don't like either sheer or shimmer,so what left for me are shades: peach glow, pink grapefruit glow, and cranberry glow. But from the swatch what I love the most was sugar plum sheer color. However,I was worried of the word"plum"since in the past, all lipstick that I had with plum word in it always ended up they had mauve/violet color. I can't imagine a violet color on my cheek,it'll deffy look more like bruises on my cheeks rather than a healthy cheek!Beside, the picture can be mistaken in the actual color. Then, between peach glow, pink grapefruit glow, and cranberry glow,I could only choose pink grapefruit glow or cranberry glow since I already ordered my lipglaze in peach color.I don't want to have 2 products in peach color since they can substitute each other(yep, you can use your lipstick as your blush on too;) ).So,only pink grapefruit glow and cranberry glow left. The cranberry one looked tempting, but again the extra red color made me worried.Yeah,I don't want it to make me look like I've been slapped or something. So I chose this pink grapefruit glow shade. And this is the swatch on my hand and paper:

This product, just like my lipglaze in peach by 100%pure,smells fruity. The texture is a bit creamy. The result is a bit sheer pink color with one sweep on both lips and cheeks,so if you want bolder color, you need to sweep it more than 1. Not shimery at all,so if you hate shimmer like me,you can use this product :).Also, this one isn't tinted if we use the term of tinting like benetint lip tint by benefit.Instead,it's layering on our skin to make a color on it.The ingredients list is written on the bottom of the product but you need to peel it first.

Ingredients:
Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Honey Beeswax, Grapeseed Oil, Vitamin E (a-tocopherol), Vitamin C (ascorbyl palmitate), Pigments of Cranberry, Pomegranate, Blackberry, Raspberry, Cabernet Grape, Plum, Strawberry, Cherry, Peach, Apricot, Blueberry, Cocoa Bean, Carrot and Tomato, Strawberry Extract.

Right, there's no grapefruit there in ingredients list.Maybe it's named after the color of grapefruit?Hmm..have no idea about it.But there's an interesting fact about grapefruit, especially if you're a non english speakers like me:D.I've heard about grapefruit in cosmetic or food products before, but I thought it was this fruit:

While actually it was this fruit:

Yes,that's grapefruit and not orange.I don't understand, why did they need to give it the name with"grape"word while we have another"grape"fruit already?Just like the teatree that I've ever talked about here.Such a confusing thing, isn't it?:D .I thought the name was orange. Here, people define most of that kind of orange shape alike with"orange"word in it.Anything from Citrus genus,we call it as orange.Even for lemon, people here will call it lemon orange instead of just lemon.

Overall I like this product. But I won't give it high ratings. Why?simply because it has no expiry date printed on it.Just like my previous 100%pure lipglaze,I'll give this product a 4.5 points.Nice product, they just need to provide a better info for consumers about its expiry date. That's all I can post for now.Thank you for Reading:)  And please, don't be hesitated to share some of the joy you have today for those in need below:

Have A Nice Day!:)

34 lovely notes

  1. I think an expiration date is definitely necessary. Without one it could be 3 years old and you wouldn't even know it.

I like your comments about grapefruit. I don't know why they call it "grape" fruit since it has nothing to do with grapes. I am sure there is an interesting story about it somewhere out there. I love hearing about the cultural differences in your posts. Thanks!

    1. Oh yeah..teatree and tea tree, grapefruit and grape fruit, wonder why they didn't provide anyother name so that we can define it better one another!:D

True, this is frankly an awkward for me about that expiry date.Silly things to do though,I depend my opinion about product rancidity based on these only:buying it on a"trusted" website, and by smelling it!Oh Gosh, this is the loophole of American beauty industry-they lack of regulation-which is a loss for consumers, benefit for producers! As for that 100%pure products,I have another product of them(the latest one) which I haven't reviewed, but amazingly it has an expiry date on it!Confusing,huh?@_@ Do they put expiry date now or what?As for this tint and another lipglaze that I have,I based my product rancidity from those:still smells fine(since it's loaded with fully butters so any rancidity will be easily detected from its smells)and I bought it from a"trusted"website.Really not a reccomended action to do..

  2. Lynn, superthanks for the review! *hugs*

Me, I don't like shimmer too, I prefer the cheek colour with a matte finish. :) Those 'glow' (peach, grapefruit, cranberry) seems not so shimmering, aren't they? But honestly I don't really understand the difference between shimmer and sheer. Are they more glittering or what? *sorry, ultra-beginner of make up thingy

XD

Once again, thank youuu! ;) That's so kind of you.

    1. You're welcome,dear!*hugs back*

Yep,those"glow"aren't shimmery. But this grapefruit is sheer when you apply it just one sweep.Sheer=not opaque.Shimmer=has a bit hint of silvery finish, sometimes it's glittery too(they literally add glitter on it).Jadi, shimmer tu rada2 mengkilap perak/emas gitu.Ga semua shimmer ada glitter, kadang ngga ada glitternya kadang ada.Tar deh aku krm pic bedanya shimmer sama glitter.

Bwahaha...iya nih,tar para doggy ato pussy yg tau kpn expiry datenya!~XD Kosmetik amrik kan mang gitu, kan uda pernah aku bahas yg humphrey's review, kalo mereka memang ga di regulasi dengan baik.Jadi expiry datenya suka2 produsernya gitu..

Lah iya, bukan kita yg bingungin, bhs inggrisnya yg malah bingungin:D Lah tuh, masa banyak buah yg namanya sama2.Masi mending kita,yg bentuknya mirip dibilang jeruk.

That's ok;) jadi, mau beli yg warna apa nih?;)

      Delete
    2. Sekarang udah tau bedaya shimmer, glitter, sheer. :D *berasa lebih pintar selevel

Mungkin di Amrik saking banyaknya produk bergelimpangan, regulasinya nggak teratur ya...Haha! Sok tau banget eke. :))

Yap, hidup Bahasa Indonesia (yang ternyata ilmiah!)! :D Hehehe.

      Delete
    3. Tapi si Cranberry Glow juga menarik hati euy! Hehehe. :))

Wah,kosmetik amrik tu susah buat didefinisikan.FDAnya blg ga mungkin regulasi bahan2 krn ada byk bgt(kynya mrk ga mau pusing gitu),jadi mereka pasrahin produsen buat nentuin sdr mana yg mrk anggap safe.

:) Nanti semedi dulu aah. *duduk sila di bawah air terjun

Wah, berarti tanggung jawab produsennya bener-bener diperhitungkan ya.

Harusnya si gitu mau tanggung jawab,tp belom ada yg kaya johnson's & johnson tu,mau ganti formulasinya segala(walo nunggu taun depan baru ganti, hahaa).Yg laennya,hehehe..we're all waiting for the answer^^v

      Delete
    7. Iya nih, semedi duluuu *cari-cari waterboom* Hihihi!

Yg cheek tintnya mayan sih,yg lipsticknya cuman dikit..

  4. expiration date --- definitely necessary, especially with natural/organic products.

Hmm, never knew 100% Pure has cheek-lip stains. I've only tried the concealer and never went back to this brand because of a disappointing experience. But it's making me reconsider.. I love tints and I also always go for matte ones for the naturally blushing look. :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I totally agree with you! This one is rather an odd topic issue regarding 100% pure brands. They didn't put it on my prev.lipglaze and this one.But they put it on my tinted moisturizer product.Do you have it on your concealer packaging?

Umm..this one isn't that matte since it's creamy.Their powder one will give you more matte look,I guess^^..

      Delete
    2. By matte, I mean no "sparkles". I'm okay with cream/liquid tints 'cause I love the dewy look. Just don't like sparkling stuff on my face 'cause it doesn't look good on me, haha.

I haven't checked my concealer. I'll see whether I still have it at home but I only used it 2x 'cause it gave me rashes :X

      Delete
    3. I see:) I thought what you wanted was an ultimate matte look which can be achieved by powdery ones.Me too,bling-bling is just not me(for daily look). It'll be good for party or night events I guess which I rarely attend:D..

Rashes?I'm wondering what gave you rashes back then. But the formula of concealer is different than their lips products. What's in your concealer that you think give you rashes?

Sama kaya badger liptint.Ga tau napa mrk sebut itu liptint ya.Hrsnya si lipstick aja gtu.Kalo yg bener2 liptint model abis minum fanta gitu,yg versi green cosmetic belum pnah nemu seingatku 6(*_*) ato aku yg krg nyarinya ya?hahaaa..:D

    2. oohh gitu yaa, aku pikir versi bule ga ada. iya bener kyk minum fanta klo dipke xD . itu klo dipke ktnya susah diapus yaa, tahan lama gitu warna nya. cm serem jg klo warna nya jd permanen di bibir.
iya ya, salah tuu kasih namanya. harusnya lipbalm aja, kan itu melembabkan, gak ksi warna kyk lipstik.

    3. Ada banyak^^ malah mrk bikin dulu sblm korea ma jepang seingatku sih. Umm..iya,kalo uda dipake susah diapus krn dia tint bibir kita.Tp biasanya yg model gitu, kering dibibir.
      Iya,hrsnya lipbalm,lipstick,lipcolor krn dia ngga tint kerjanya^^..

Yes it is :),if only it's applied on skin but not on lips. They all comes with pink color results when it's applied on lips:/..I mean,if you buy several of their lipstick products in various colors, you'll notice that they'll result in..all pink shades. It's good for cheek, but if you want red lips color,it won't work even if what you buy is red color.Btw,what a nice blog that you have there!:)

Do you think this one would suit, or is there another you'd recommend instead?

    1. Hi Carla :)
It really depends on what color that you want.Anyway, lip stain here is somehow similar to lipstick,it's just sheerer but it doesn't stain unlike that cover girl lipstain one.100% pure offers various shades,but..when they're applied on lips almost all of them fall into pink category as I have reviewed it also here:
      http://lovelycosme.blogspot.com/2012/10/100-pure-lipglaze-in-rose-petal.html

or,just klik on my post labels over there under label"brand review:100%pure" for more 100% pure products review. When it's swatched on our hand, the color is exactly the same as what we see on the tube. But when it's applied on our lips, somehow it turns to fall into pink shade, even the brown one.I've asked other bloggers, and they experienced the same,be it the one who lives in tropical climate, sub tropical climate, different races,so..that's my conclusion. If you want to buy,I suggest you to buy sample 1st.Or,swatch it on your lips, not your hands.Btw 100%pure lips products are vegetarian, not vegan.

By far 100% pure is the only one who makes products from plant colorants in various shades, vegetarian, and has good ingredients.Aveda also has one(the uruku collection),vegan, and has less shades than 100% pure. However, the ingredients isn't my fave one if we talk about this safety preference issue.Intelligent Nutrients also has lip stain with plant based colorants, and good ingredients. However, their product is very limited(only lip gloss-stain),and not in lipstick form. That is if you want for plant based colorants and vegan.

If you want product with mineral colorants, vegetarian, this one is easier.Fyi,i'm against carmine so what I look for will be those without carmine. You can try these brands:
      Gabriel,or Zuzu luxe(they're from the same company).The all natural face,Everyday Minerals,Alba Botanica,Keeki,Pacifica,Crazy Rumours,& Alima Pure.
Alima Pure,Keeki,Alba Botanica are without carmine, but they use beeswax which means not vegan.Only crazy rumours, gabriel, zuzu luxe, the all natural face, pacifica and everyday minerals that use no beeswax.Which means they're vegan.

      Hope that helps!:)
